About Folic Acid

Folic acid (also known as folate when present in its anionic form) is water-soluble B vitamin. Folic acid plays important physiological roles and its active form, Tetrahydrofolic Acid (THFA), is obtained by an enzymatic reaction in which folic acid is reduced into THFA by the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase. THFA is important in many biosynthetic reactions that include the transfer of single-carbon containing groups and the biosynthesis of purines, thymidine, and certain amino acids.
