This buffer lacks reducing agents like DTT or beta-mercaptoethanol, ensuring that intra- and inter-molecular disulfide bonds remain intact during protein denaturation by SDS. It contains glycerol to facilitate sample loading into gel wells and bromophenol blue, to monitor the progress of electrophoresis.
