Acridine Orange hydrochloride hydrate is a cell-permeable, metachromatic cationic fluorescent dye widely used for the differential staining of nucleic acids. It intercalates into double-stranded DNA to emit green fluorescence at 525–530 nm, and binds electrostatically to single-stranded RNA or DNA to produce red fluorescence at 640–650 nm. This versatile product is highly utilized in fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry for cell cycle analysis and the detection of microorganisms.
